BJC Covid-19 Advice

Government Guidelines (re: COVID-19)

We are gradually hoping to return to Judo please see below the current levels of return in the four governments:

England
From Monday 19th July 2021

Full contact Judo allowed for adults and under 18’s.

  • No legal restrictions indoors or outdoors for participants or spectator numbers
  • No capacity caps for club sessions or events
  • No travel restrictions
  • Facemasks no longer legal requirements, however, consider face masks in confined space
  • QR Codes no longer legally required, however, clubs are still encouraged to display and use these as it supports test & trace and self-isolation which remains.
  • From 16 August 21, people who are double vaccinated will not be required to self-isolate.

Please remember Attendance registers Must be kept.

Due to the high levels of Covid infections currently We would advise that you act with additional caution and follow the recommendations below, please remember these are recommendations not legal requirements:

  • A risk assessment must be conducted to inform health and safety requirements and ensure a safe venue capacity
  • Ensure signage is clear if clubs would like to create a safe distance between people and direct traffic flow
  • Continue with health & safety cleaning regimes and ensure hand washing/ hand sanitising facilities are available
  • Consider face masks, if space is confined in crowded venues and for any spectators
  • Minimise unnecessary contact (e.g. handshaking etc.) and sharing of water bottles
  • Recognise that people/carers with underlying health conditions or disabilities may be anxious about returning to judo activity and their needs should be catered for sensitively
  • Ensure anyone entering competition or Gradings have participated in judo training for a minimum of 6 weeks (or 10 hours) and fit enough to compete
  • Respect any guidelines provided by your venue and adhere to them

Should you be returning to training please make sure your club registration has been renewed and all members have up to date membership.

Wales
From 7th August 2021

  • Full contact judo allowed for adults and under 18’s.
  • Clubs must consider their maximum numbers based on its risk assessment.
  • Facemasks must be worn before and after activity.
  • Spectators will be required to wear face masks.
  • A risk assessment must be conducted to inform health and safety requirements and ensure a safe venue capacity.
  • Continue with health & safety cleaning regimes and ensure hand washing/ hand sanitising facilities are available.
  • Minimise unnecessary contact (e.g. handshaking etc.) and sharing of water bottles.
  • Ensure anyone entering Gradings have participated in judo training for a minimum of 6 weeks (or 10 hours) and fit enough to compete.
  • Respect any guidelines that clubs venues would like then to adhere to upon returning to the Dojo.
  • Facilitate contact tracing with the use of the NHS QR code and app

Scotland
From 19th July 2021

Here is a brief overview of the Government’s recent announcement:

  • Full contact judo allowed for adults and under 18’s.
  • Capacity for club sessions must not be over 500.
  • Travel restrictions - Car sharing should be avoided unless from the same household where groups do share they should follow the specific travel guidance given by Transport Scotland.
  • Those 18 years and over -To help suppress the spread of the virus it is advised that people should not utilize facilities or take part in activities that is not allowed in their home local area protection level.
  • Facemasks must be worn indoors when not training or in confined spaces and by spectators.
  • Social distancing is reduced to 1m when not practicing and during breaks.
  • You must continue to use test and Protect Scotland and attendance registers are mandatory.

  • Continue with health & safety cleaning regimes and ensure hand washing/ hand sanitising facilities are available.
  • Minimise unnecessary contact (e.g. handshaking etc.).
  • Ensure anyone entering Gradings have participated in judo training for a minimum of 6 weeks (or 10 hours) and fit enough to compete.
  • Respect any guidelines that clubs venues would like then to adhere to upon returning to the Dojo.

Northern Ireland
From 24th May

Under 18s Only

  • Organised indoor full contact Judo permitted.
  • Numbers should be limited by the venue size.
  • 15:1 Judoka / coach ratio you can have more Judokas and coaches depending on the venue size.
  • Abide by social distancing rules travelling to and from the session.
  • Spectators allowed indoors (only if essential) in groups of six/two households with social distancing.
  • Use of toilets and changing rooms to be kept to a minimum.
  • Adhere to hygiene rules before and after session (sanitize hands).
  • Clean equipment after use.
  • Keep attendance register.

Over 18s from 31st May

  • Organised indoor non-contact Judo permitted.
  • Numbers should be limited to venue size.
  • 15:1 Judoka/ coach ratio you can have more Judokas and Coaches depending on the venue size.
  • Abide by social distancing rules travelling to and from the session.
  • Spectators allowed indoors (only if essential) in groups of six/two households with social distancing.
  • Use of toilets and changing rooms to be kept to a minimum.
  • Adhere to hygiene rules before and after session (sanitize hands).
  • Clean equipment after use.
  • Keep attendance register.

Outdoor training is permitted in larger numbers as long as taken with sport specific guidance.

 

Before any sessions are recommenced the BJC head office needs to receive and approve a risk assessment. If required an example risk assessment can be found below.
