The President is honoured to announce the promotion of
Sensei Mealing to 9th Dan.
Today we proudly celebrate an extraordinary milestone —
the promotion of Sensei Mealing to 9th Dan (Red belt)within the British Judo
Council, the highest grade ever awarded. This is not just a rank, but a
reflection of a lifetime dedicated to the art, spirit, and discipline of judo.
Sensei Mealing stands as a true inspiration to
generations — an influential leader whose guidance has shaped countless
journeys on and off the mat. His humility, honesty, and unwavering commitment
to the values of judo define not only his legacy, but the very heart of the
BJC.
On his remarkable 98th birthday, we honour not just his
achievement, but the man himself — a living legend whose wisdom, strength, and
quiet dignity continue to inspire us all.
Our thoughts are with him on this special day. His story
reminds us what it truly means to lead, to serve, and to dedicate one’s life to
something greater.
